Harmony Alliance First Anniversary Celebration
On Monday 26 November 2018 the Harmony Alliance: Migrant and Refugee Women for Change celebrated its first anniversary in Sydney. This date also marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the 25th November.
The evening brought together Harmony Alliance members and supporters to celebrate the productive first year of the Alliance. The event was MC’d by Natalie Ahmat, SBS NITV Presenter and Cross Platform Journalist, and featured a presentation of the Harmony Alliance’s first year of work by Chair, Maria Dimopoulos.
During the event, the Migrant and Refugee Women’s Voices Survey Report was launched by Jackie Leewai, SBS Community Engagement & Partnerships Manager, and Trish Bergin, First Assistant Secretary, Office for Women. The inaugural Migrant and Refugee Women’s Voices Survey was conducted by the Harmony Alliance in partnership with SBS and SBS Radio over six weeks between May and July 2018.
The event also included the presentation of the 2018 Harmony Alliance Award to Nyadol Nyuon for her significant contribution to empowering migrant and refugee women. Nyadol has been an important voice defending fair and just treatment of the South Sudanese and wider migrant communities, amidst a wave of negative stereotyping and representation of migrant Australians. Congratulations Nyadol!
We would like to extend a warm thank you to our Sydney supporters and members for attending our First Anniversary Celebration.
